Pyongyang, March 4 (KCNA) -- This year marks the 70th anniversary of the naming of the orthodox martial art of the Korean nation, Taekwon-Do.
Taekwon-Do originated from Subakhui (a Korean style of martial art using only the hands), Thaekgyon and Nalpharam which had contributed to bolstering up the nation's military muscle, training people's mind and building up their healthy bodies for many years.
It can be illustrated by the mural painting at Anak Tomb No. 3 dating back to the period of Koguryo (B.C.277 - A.D.668) and the records on a historical document, "Mu Ye Do Bo Tong Ji" (the comprehensive illustrated manual of Korean marital arts).
The Korean nation's historically-developed martial arts were named Taekwon-Do in 1955, after technical movements and scientific principles were further perfected and systematized, and became one of the modern martial art events.
Today Taekwon-Do shines as an excellent cultural wealth of the Korean people, thanks to the wise guidance of the peerlessly great men who put forward it as the orthodox martial art of the nation and put their heart and soul into its development.
President
Chairman
The respected Comrade
A well-regulated system for disseminating and popularizing Taekwon-Do has been established in the DPRK, and the number of talented Taekwon-Do players is increasing in this course.
Last year, the DPRK players proved successful in the 10th Asian Taekwon-Do Championship and in the senior category events of "Taekwon-Do World Cup-2024" of the 9th International Martial Arts Games, thus demonstrating the honor of the Taekwon-Do native country and instilling national pride and self-esteem into the people. -0-
