Pyongyang, December 16 (KCNA) -- Phyochung monuments were erected by kings of the feudal Joson dynasty (1392-1910) in praise of the loyalty of Jong Mong Ju, a high-ranking official, military man and diplomat active in the late period of Koryo dynasty (918-1392).
The monuments stand by the Sonjuk Bridge in Kaesong Municipality of the DPRK.
The two monuments are in a house and each of them consists of floor stone made of granite, tortoise-shaped pedestal, body made of black marble and head.
The monument in the north was built in 1740. It is 3.17 meters high and 0.93 meters wide. The monument in the south was built in 1872. It is 3.58 meters high and 0.94 meters wide.
On the floor stone, there is the tortoise-shaped pedestal made of a monolith with weight of over ten tons.
Both heads of the monuments are in the form of hip-saddle roofs and each head has four dragons in relief.
The monuments are precious cultural heritage showing the rich artistic talents and developed cultural level of Korean ancestors. -0-
