Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) -- The technology of making colorful painting is one of the intangible cultural heritages of the DPRK.
The colorful painting is used in decorating or painting patterns with various colors on woods, walls and ceilings of buildings.
It came into being from application of organic preservatives to prevent the corrosion of woods in buildings.
Animal and vegetable oils were used as surface adhesives.
Koguryo tomb murals discovered so far are relatively good for preservation state, thus giving a presentation of the splendid colors at that time.
The main colors used in the Koguryo tomb murals were red, yellowish brown, yellow, green, blue, dark blue, purple, etc.
In the period of Koryo, a systematic color scheme was formed, free from the primitive mode of colouring.
As history develops and the level of people's consciousness is gradually on a higher stage, the aesthetic demands have been increased.
From such demands, the art of colorful painting has steadily developed. Through the course, paints and adhesives suited to the characteristics of timbers have emerged.
And it developed into a decorative method of painting pictures or patterns on columns, rafters and ceilings of buildings as its ever-increasing decorative significance.
