North Phyongan Province Improves Soil Fertility

Pyongyang, March 27 (KCNA) -- North Phyongan Province of the DPRK is concentrating all efforts on improving soil fertility.

Officials in the field of agriculture worked out a scientific and realistic plan for decisively increasing the soil fertility and are making strenuous efforts to carry it into practice.

Towns and counties are actively conducting the work to carpet the farm fields with humus soil and reclaim acid soil and cold and wet lands by mobilizing all their manpower and means, and making full efforts to produce and transport various kinds of high-quality organic fertilizer and substitute mineral fertilizer to farm fields in conformity with the characteristics of their regions.

Thaechon County produced a lot of slaked lime in a short span of time and spread hundreds of tons of mud per hectare in paddy fields with thin soil depth and carpeted the dry fields with humus soil in a qualitative way.

Officials and working people in Sonchon County secured a large amount of peat needed for the production of huminite and sent it to farms, and Tongrim County is boosting the production of various land improvement agents.

Officials and working people of institutions and enterprises and inhabitants of dongs and neighborhood units in Jongju City have sent quality urban manure to the organic compound fertilizer factory, contributing to the production of slow-action granulated fertilizer.

Agricultural workers and helpers in Sinuiju City and Ryongchon and Cholsan counties, too, are devoting themselves to improving the soil fertility. -0-
