Kimchi, One of World's Five Health Foods

Pyongyang, June 9 (KCNA) -- Nowadays, an increasing number of people have come to public service amenities in different parts of the DPRK to buy refreshing kimchi as the hot weather persists.

Kimchi, a traditional food of the Korean people, is famous as one of the five health foods in the world. It is a low-fat health food high in vitamins A and C, lactic acid bacteria helpful to digestion and polysaccharide and lignin.

There are many kinds of kimchi including tasty and spicy whole cabbage kimchi, sweet-favoured chonggak kimchi and radish kimchi spiced with parsley, shizandra or other herbs.

The Hwasong Kimchi Factory in Hwasong Street of Pyongyang has industrialized the production of various kinds of kimchi including whole cabbage kimchi.

According to Yun Hyon Chol, manager of the factory, it is the secret of making delicious kimchi to thoroughly observe the technical indices for giving the strongest distinctive flavor to kimchi, add various lactic acid bacterium and apply effective processing methods in the production process.

On June 9, 2016, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un visited the newly-built Hwasong Kimchi Factory. He said that kimchi is widely known as one of the world's five health foods, adding that the factory should make kimchi produced by industrial methods more delicious than homemade ones and thus make it the one always favored by our people, the best food in the world.

In 2015 the UNESCO registered the DPRK's custom of making kimchi as part of the world intangible cultural heritage. -0-
