Pyongyang, May 24 (KCNA) -- May 25 is the day marking the 70th anniversary of the formation of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), a dignified overseas citizens' organization of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Chongryon is the Juche-type overseas compatriots' organization whose formation, development, guiding idea, course of its struggle and others are unthinkable apart from the undying feats and warm compatriotism of President Kim Il Sung.

The movement of Koreans in Japan was at the crossroads of success or failure due to the Japanese reactionaries' suppression and wrong line of trucklers and national nihilists in the late 1940s and the early 1950s.

With a scientific insight into the situation of the movement of Koreans in Japan, the President, despite of leading the Fatherland Liberation War to victory in December 1952, set forth the Juche-oriented policy of switchover that the Koreans should struggle for their homeland, their nation and revolution of their country even though they live in Japan.

In September 1954 he clarified that a new type of overseas compatriots' organization should be formed and that the new organization should be an organization struggling with the main emphasis on the issue of life of the Koreans in Japan, the issue of defending the rights of citizens of the Republic and the issue of ensuring the rights of democratic national education, and that such organization should conduct activities under the guidance of the government of the Republic.

Thanks to the energetic leadership of the President, the movement of Koreans in Japan was turned into a national patriotic movement and Chongryon, a new-type compatriots' organization, was formed.

The formation of Chongryon was a precious fruition of the original idea and leadership of the President on overseas compatriots' movement and a historic event that brought about a fundamental turn in developing the movement of Koreans in Japan and carving out the destiny of Koreans in Japan.

Since its formation, Chongryon has maintained its legitimate position as an overseas citizens' organization of Juche Korea. It established a well-regulated organizational system and work system and realized the unity and cohesion of the ranks in one ideology and will, thus developing into an authoritative and powerful overseas compatriots' organization.

It is a pride of the DPRK to have such a powerful overseas compatriots' organization as Chongryon. -0-
