Pyongyang, June 9 (KCNA) -- Farms in the DPRK concentrate their efforts on manuring and cultivating earlier wheat and barley, and also make preparations for their harvest.

Unryul, Anak and Paechon counties in South Hwanghae Province are applying farming methods suited to the characteristics of strains and their growth in all the fields and plots in order to improve the nutrition of wheat and barley and ripen them more quickly.

Agricultural workers in Ryokpho, Mangyongdae and Sadong districts of Pyongyang Municipality are responsibly manuring and tending wheat and barley to create the condition favorable for their growth. And they responsibly weed the fields and apply various germicides and insecticides to prevent adverse effects on the yields.

Farms in Songnim City and Hwangju and Rinsan counties of North Hwanghae Province are ensuring the proper soil moisture by deeply digging drainage ditches around the fields in order to prevent wheat and barley in paddy fields from being damaged by moisture. And they are giving precedence to the work for harvesting the ripe grains.

Wonsan and Munchon cities and Thongchon County in Kangwon Province and Sukchon, Mundok and Phyongwon counties in South Phyongan Province inform farmers of the kinds of harmful insect and the method for exterminating them and make sure that the harmful insect observers have a high sense of responsibility.

South Hamgyong Province, Nampho Municipality and other areas are repairing grain drying grounds, paving threshing grounds and maintaining various kinds of farm machines while directing efforts to cultivating wheat and barley. -0-
