Efforts Directed to Putting Country's Sports on Higher Stage of Development

Pyongyang, January 10 (KCNA) -- The sports sector of the DPRK makes innovative work to attain higher goals in the light of the idea and spirit of the Eleventh Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.

The Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports and the Korean Taekwon-Do Committee are studying the proposals for putting the country's sports on a higher stage of development and organizing the work to carry them into practice.

The ministry has proposed plans conducive to improving the quality of sports teaching and training and winning more medals in international games this year, too.

Measures are discussed to guide the sports work in a scientific way and strengthen the reserve players training by working out realistic plans for technical development at sports teaching and training units at all levels.

The sports education and scientific research units are taking practical steps to further perfect the training methods suited to the constitutional features of Korean players, introduce new cross-disciplinary sciences into educational practice and achieve research successes conducive to putting the teaching and training on a higher scientific basis.

The detailed work is going on to rev up the enthusiasm for sports throughout the country, organize mass sports games in various forms and methods and increase the ranks of referees for mass sports games.

Discussed are the practical issues arising in building and remodeling sports facilities on a modern basis, developing and producing various kinds of quality sports goods at the athletic apparatus production units and conducting sports exchange.

The Korean Taekwon-Do Committee concentrates its efforts on improving the system of selecting reserve players and achieving bigger successes in the world championships to be held in the future. -0-
