Prizes Conferred on Scientists and Technicians

Pyongyang, March 8 (KCNA) -- The 20th ceremony of awarding the February 16 Science and Technology Prize took place at the People's Palace of Culture on March 7.

Present at the ceremony were Pak Thae Song, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Jon Sung Guk, vice-premier of the Cabinet, Ri Tu Il, chairman of the State Commission of Science and Technology, Kim Sung Du, chairman of the Education Commission, Kim Sung Jin, president of the State Academy of Sciences, officials concerned, scientists and technicians.

To begin with, a decision of the committee for examining the prize was read out at the ceremony.

Certificates and medals of the February 16 Science and Technology Prize were awarded to several projects of urgent significance in revitalizing the national economy to be followed by relevant prizes.

Over 50 scientists, technicians, teachers and researchers from Kim Il Sung University, the Heat Engineering Institute of the State Academy of Sciences, the Pukchang Thermal Power Complex, the Pyongyang Thermal Power Plant, the Tumour Institute of the Academy of Medical Science, etc. were awarded the certificates of the February 16 Science and Technology Prize. They all took part in major projects.

Kim Ryong Hung, section chief of the Faculty of Resource Science of Kim Il Sung University, Jang Sung Jun, section chief of the Heat Engineering Institute of the State Academy of Sciences, Kim Chang Yu, section chief of the High-Tech Products Exchange Company of Sariwon Kye Ung Sang University of Agriculture, Ri Il Hun, section chief of the Tumour Institute of the Academy of Medical Science, and Hyon Ok Ju, chief of a branch factory of the Pyongyang Thermal Power Plant, were selected as the best scientists and technicians of the state in 2022.

The Prize for Best Inventor for 2022 was conferred on Sok Yong Bom, section chief of the Power Machine Institute of the State Academy of Sciences, Kim Hung Won, vice-director of the Pomhyanggi Institute of the Sinuiju Cosmetics Factory, Kim Im Chol, director of the Kanggye building-material test center of the Jagang provincial management bureau for regional construction and building-materials production, Song Yong Il, vice-president of the Academy of Engineering Science of Pyongyang University of Architecture, and Ri Song Nam, section chief of the South Hwanghae Provincial Information and Communications Center.
